Whether it’s computing or cooking, holidays or spa days we help people with learning disabilities get the most out of life
Everyone enjoys taking part hobbies and activities but for people with learning disabilites this can sometimes be a challenge. At Huntingdon Mencap we support people in getting out, whether as individuals or in a group, and engaging with their favourite leisure interests in the way they want. The type of activities we’ve helped make accessible over the years are:
• Sports, music and theatre events
• Spa days and pamper evenings
• Christmas events
• Holidays and day trips
All our staff teams have specialist learning disability training so we are also able to support people in developing life skills, whether it be on a one-to-one basis or through classes and workshops. Examples of these are:
• Communication skills
• Computer skills
• Cookery classes
• Work experience

SEB’S DAY OUT
Seb is a young man who knows what he wants and how he wants his support to be delivered.
Seb’s favourite group is JLS and recently he went to see them perform live in Birmingham. We supported him in buying tickets and choosing who he wanted to accompany him. He had a fantastic time and as you can see is very happy with the photo he bought at the concert.
Seb lives independently in a supported tenancy with three other young men. He likes attending Special Choices, a unique day service that is run at The Laurels where our main office is also based. He has many ambitions and we keep helping him acheive them!
